Gourmet Coffee
Company celebrates healthful coffee consumption following the
release of a new coffee study last month. The study shows that
coffee is the number one source of antioxidants in the U.S. diet,
according to researchers at the University of Scranton. "Americans
get more of their antioxidants from coffee than any other dietary
source. Nothing else comes close," says study leader Joe Vinson,
Ph.D. "One to two cups a day appear to be beneficial," he says.
Drinking more coffee does not necessarily lead to better health.
Free radicals are produced through normal body functions and are believed to be the cause of some diseases and some cancers. Free radicals are the villains the antioxidants fight in the human body. Antioxidants occur naturally in foods and beverages and it's theorized that they prevent heart disease and cancer by fighting cellular damage caused by free radicals in the body.
Although fruits and vegetables are
the most recommended source of antioxidants due to their higher
levels of vitamins and minerals, Americans get far more of their
free-radical fighting compounds from coffee. The second most consumed
source of antioxidants for American's is hot tea..
American coffee consumption is on the rise, with an estimated
53% of all U.S. residents drinking at least one cup a day. Many
get that morning jolt of antioxidant from coffee available online
from http://tastesoftheworld.net online coffee retailer. Gourmet
coffee shops seem to be popping up on nearly every street corner
over the last five years. Starbucks alone has over 4000 stores
in the U.S. But consumers find that purchasing coffee online is
simple and convenient and find brewing at home far more economical
than visiting specialty coffee shops.
Tomas DePaulis, PhD, research scientist at Vanderbilt University's Institute for Coffee Studies, was quoted in a WebMD special report saying, "Overall, the research shows that coffee is far more healthful than it is harmful ... For most people, very little bad comes from drinking it, but a lot of good."
Interestingly, about the same amount of antioxidants are found in both caffeinated and decaffeinated coffees in fresh ground gourmet coffee beans. So those who are bothered by caffeine can drink decaf and avoid the jitters while gaining a daily dose of hot steaming antioxidants with that fresh aroma we all seem to love.
